Ora Bell Garrett Monday
November 14, 1936 - October 09, 2019



Ora Bell Garrett Monday was born to the late Mr. Eddie Garrett, Sr., and Beatrice Morris Garrett on November 14, 1936 in Franklinton, LA.

Ora Bell attended and graduated from Washington Parish high school in 1953.  From there she went on to beauty school in Bogalusa, LA and received her cosmetology license.

She worked at Riverside Medical Center, the cheese plant in Franklinton, LA and retired from the Laborers Local 689 union in New Orleans, LA.  She helped to build the Louis Armstrong Parking Garage and several hotels on Canal Street.  She was also a beautician, she shucked oysters, and was a substitute teacher in the Calvert County School System of the State of Maryland.  She loved the outdoors more than the indoors. You could often find her mowing yards and planting gardens.

She joined St. John United Methodist Church under watch care from 1970-1973.  She belonged to Sweet Rest Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully attended Bible Study and Sunday School. She held numerous positions in the church; singing in the choir, mission board member, Sunday School teacher, church announcer, etc.

She married Johnny Will Monday, Sr., on November 14, 1954 and to this union six children were born.

She departed her life peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 at 6:20 p.m. at home with her youngest daughter Annis Monday in Lusby, Maryland.

She leaves two sons, Johnny Will (Freddie Mae) Monday of Clarksville, Tennessee; Tony Lawrence Monday of Lusby, MD.  Three daughters, Deena M. Pierce of Franklinton, LA; Myra Ioatha Monday (Develand, Sr.,) Campbell; Annis Yodora Monday both of Lusby, MD.  Four brothers, Edward Brock of Baltimore, MD, Grady Mingo and Willie (Versey) Mingo both of Franklinton, LA and Tommy Mingo of California; one Sister, Lucy (Johnny) McKay of North Las Vegas, NV; one brother-in-law, Donald Ray (Janie) Monday of Poplarville, MS; two sisters-in-law, Florida Garrett of Slidell, LA and Joyce Garrett of New Orleans, LA.  Six grandchildren, Nikia, Kaila, Develand II, Dustin, Dartuna and Michael and 13 great grandchildren.  One big sister Myra Lucille Bickham, best friends, Sister Nellie Mae Lundy, Sister Christine Taylor, Sister Viola Foote, Sister Beuna Weems, Sister Elizabeth White-Johnson, Sister Rosa Dean Brock, Sister Anita Thompson; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lisa Alberta Monday; two brothers, Eddie D. Garrett and Roy B. Garrett; one son-in-law, Wendell (Husky) Pierce, and one grandson, Dexter Swein Campbell.

Visitation will be Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 11:AM - 2:30PM followed by funeral service at 2:30PM at Sweet Rest Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Norwert Hills, Jr. ~ Pastor Officiating. Interment will be at Sweet Rest Cemetery.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home - Franklinton are in charge of arrangements.
