Mattie Fortenberry Seal
March 3, 1947 - September 11, 2019



Mattie Frances Fortenberry Seal, age 72 and a resident of Franklinton, died Wednesday morning September 11, 2019. She was born March 3, 1947 in Tylertown, MS. Mattie was a 1965 graduate of Tylertown High School and later obtained her bachelor’s degree in teaching from Southeastern Louisiana University. She taught school in Covington for a short time before pursuing a master’s degree in Social Work at the University of Southern Mississippi. She later completed her PhD from Baptist Christian University. Mattie worked as a social worker in various locations on the Northshore for over 45 years, ultimately retiring from Riverside Medical Center. She enjoyed helping others.

Mattie was a longtime member of Canaan Baptist Church, where she enjoyed teaching Sunday School, singing, and helping teach the youth. She loved her church family. Mattie came to know Jesus as her Savior on September 25, 1975.

Survived by: Husband: Billy Seal of Franklinton; Son and Daughter in law: John and Heather Seal of Franklinton; Daughters and Son in law: Angela and Jeff Ellis, of Columbia, TN and Michelle Case, of Ringgold, GA; Granddaughter: Madelyn Seal; Grandsons: Jordan Howell and Dylan Ellis; Brother: Richard (Donnis) Fortenberry of McComb, MS; Sister: Mary (Joe) Ware of Pearl River, LA; Aunt: Nelda Frazier of Jackson, LA; Sister in law: Johnnie Lee (Ronnie) Charbonnet of Franklinton; Brothers in law: Cecil Seal (Alice Mulkey), of Covington, LA, Ronnie (Brandy) Seal of Franklinton, and Donnie (Karen) Seal of Franklinton; Also numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents Stanley and Frankie Fortenberry, sister Myrna Fortenberry Stinson, brother in law Edward Stinson, and sister in law Betty Alford Fortenberry.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home (1109 Bene Street, Franklinton, LA 70438) on Sunday, September 15th from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Visitation will also be after 9:00 am at Canaan Baptist Church (18486 Sanders Rd, Franklinton, LA 70438) on Monday, September 16th. A funeral service will follow at the church at 11:00 am with Rev. Stan Adams and Rev. Leon Hickman officiating. Burial will follow in the Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery.
