Obituary

Margaret Ann Hill O'Neal
July 27, 1929 - September 08, 2019

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith:” II Timothy 4:7

On Sunday, September 8, 2019, at 7:45 AM, God dispatched an angel to St. Tammany Hospital in Covington, LA to bring his daughter Margaret Ann Hill O’Neal to her heavenly home. Her earthly journey was over and he needed a teacher to cover a vacant classroom. This was her reward for being a faithful servant. Of course she will be missed here but we know that she is in a better place, and in time we will understand.

Sister O’Neal graduated from Central Memorial High School and later attended Grambling College (University) receiving a degree in Elementary Education, becoming a teacher in the Bogalusa City School System where she taught for 32 years. Most of her years were spent at Poplas Elementary. Her later years were at Superior Ave Elementary where she often refered to the last class that she has as the one that convinced her it was time to retire. She never stopped loving children and always had a special place in her heart for “all” of them.

Sister O’Neal was a dedicated member of Sweet Beulah Baptist Church after giving her life to Christ at a very early age. Until her health began to fail, she actively participated in the various organizations within the church. She was a great mentor and was often told, “I want to be like you when I grow up.”

Sut, Marge, Aunt Marge, and Mrs. O’Neal as she was affectionately called loved her family and would do anything for them. She would attend all celebrations just to watch the many members frolic and play.

Margaret was the only daughter of nine children born to the late Ollie Hill, Sr. and Willie Mae Hill on July 27, 1929. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Reverend John D. O’Neal, five brothers, James, Marshall, Robert, Ollie Jr., and Willie; as well as two sisters-in-law, Marilyn and Jane.

Left to mourn her memory are three brothers, Roy Lee (Jewel), Charles Edward (Joan), Garvice L. (Thelma); one sister-in-law, Laverne ; nieces, Renee, Patsy, Claretta, and Carmon, all of Chicago, IL, Raquel and Rosalend of Atlanta, Denise and Shaun of Richmond, CA, and Shelia of Bogalusa, LA; nephews, Ennios of Chicago, IL, Willie of Connecticut, Anthony, Roy, and Chad of Bogalusa; as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be Monday, September 16, 2019, from 5-7 PM, at Crain and Sons Funeral Home – Bogalusa. Funeral Services Tuesday, September 17, 2019, at 11:00 AM, at Sweet Beulah Baptist Church, Rev. James Magee, Pastor. Interment at Bogalusa Cemetery.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home – Bogalusa in charge of arrangements.
