Obituary

Don Lewis Lea
September 30, 1936 - August 27, 2019



Don Lewis Lea, age 82 and a resident of the Wilmer Community, died Tuesday morning August 27, 2019 at Riverside Medical Center. He was a 1954 graduate of Chesbrough High School that then attended Southeastern Louisiana University. Don joined the United States Air Force and served his country for many years, including later in the Reserve Units and the National Guard. He worked offshore before working alongside his family as a truck driver for several years. Don later joined the United States Postal Service and worked as a clerk in the Amite office before retiring. He was a big sports fan and always loved to play golf with his buddies. He enjoyed riding and tending to his horses.

Survived by: Wife of 62 years: Sonja Olsen Lea of the Wilmer Community; Daughter: Deona Lea Gay of Wilmer; 2 Sons and a Daughter in law: Jay Lea of Ponchatoula, Ross A. Lea and Donna Lea of Alabama; 6 Grandchildren and their Spouses; 11 Great-grandchildren; Brother and Sister in law: Kenneth and Sarah Lea of Wilmer; Sister: Loretta Turner of Loranger; Brother in law and Sister in law: John and Bonnie Olsen of Minnesota; Also numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Alfred Lewis Lea and Vivian Randol Lea, a brother Roger Lea, infant sister Irma Lea, and father in law and mother in law Helmor and Edith Olsen.

A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday August 30th in the Casper Lea Family Cemetery (25218 Hwy. 10, Kentwood, LA) with Rev. Walter Mixon officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Wilmer Volunteer Fire Department (22115 Hwy. 10, Kentwood, LA 70444).

The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to the dedicated men and women of the Wilmer Fire Department and the staff of Riverside Medical Center for their care and support.
