Bogalusa Police Charge 4 in Drive-By Shooting

On Tuesday (April 16, 2019) at 4:24 PM, the Bogalusa Police Department received a call about the occupants in two different vehicles firing handguns at each other on East Sixth Street. The vehicles were gone when officers arrived.
Witnesses stated that they observed a black car driven by a subject known as Justin Mark and that Mark fired multiple rounds from a handgun at another vehicle while a passenger in Mark's vehicle had a firearm in his hand. According to witnesses, the occupants in the other vehicle returned fire at Mark's vehicle.

While officers were searching for the vehicles involved, Mark's vehicle was observed traveling on New Orleans Street. A traffic stop was conducted and officers made contact with the driver and two other occupants. BPD reports that the vehicle was driven by Yamarai Brumfield and the two occupants were identified as Shamar Berry and Kenyate Harrington. Justin Mark was not observed in the vehicle. The driver granted permission for officers to search the trunk of the vehicle and officers found Justin Mark hiding in the trunk behind a speaker box. Mark was escorted from the vehicle and placed under arrest.

In the trunk where Mark was hiding, officers located two baggies of suspected marijuana, a digital scale and a fully loaded .40 caliber magazine for a handgun. When officers searched Mark, six rounds of .40 caliber ammunition were located in his clothing. During the search of the vehicle, officers located 79 unspent .40 caliber bullets, 20 unspent 9mm bullets, and  two fully loaded handguns.

Brumfield, Berry and Harrington were also arrested and, along with Mark, transported to Bogalusa City Jail for booking. Upon arrival at the Bogalusa City Jail, officers located a clear baggie of suspected cocaine in the police car where Mark was seated.

Justin J. Mark (17) of Bogalusa was booked on the charges of Assault by a Drive-By Shooting, Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instruments, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Illegal Carrying of Weapons while in Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Obstruction of Justice, Resisting an Officer and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Yamarai A. Brumfield (23) of Bogalusa was booked on the charges of Illegal Carrying of a Weapon while in the Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Accessory After the Fact of a Drive by Shooting and Possession or Carrying of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon.

Kenyate R. Harrington, Jr. (17) of Bogalusa was booked on the charges of Illegal Carrying of a Weapon while in the Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Accessory After the Fact of a Drive-By Shooting.

Shamar T. Berry (17) of Bogalusa was booked on the charges of Illegal Carrying of a Weapon while in the Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Accessory After the Fact of a Drive-By Shooting.

The other vehicle that was involved in this incident was not located but the investigation is still ongoing.
