At the first meeting of the new year, the Washington Parish Council chose District 3 Councilman Chris Workman as Chairman and District 7 Councilman David Anthony as Vice-Chairman. In addition, recently-elected Rusty Fornea, representing District 5, was sworn into office by Washington Parish Clerk of Court Johnny Crain.
The Council then got down to business. They adopted three Ordinances, approved five Resolutions, heard a presentation regarding the Bogalusa Mayor's Wellness Council Award, heard a presentation regarding Representative Malinda White's Award as Rural Health Legislator of the Year, and heard reports by Parish President Thomas and his staff.
One of the resolutions approved was to recognize parish employees Gary Nathaniel Sumrall and Shirley Lynn Cox for their heroic actions that saved a life during the November, 2018 flood event. (See separate story)
