The Life Story Of Curtis Edward (Punny) Toomer

Curtis E. Toomer, age 73 of the Star Creek, Community passed away on October 24, 2018 at his residence after a long illness, surrounded by his family.

Curtis was born on June 3, 1945 to Maurice and Allie (Magee) Toomer.  He was the youngest of six children born to this union.

Curtis lived his entire life in the community of his birth.  At an early age, he confessed his faith in Christ. was baptized and joined New Jerusalem Baptist Church.  He graduated from Washington Parish High in Franklinton, Louisiana.

"Punny", as he was lovingly called by family and friends, was a fun loving person.  He was known for telling jokes and hilarious stories. He also enjoyed pulling innocent pranks on his siblings, nieces and nephews.  He spent time with them, providing laughter, fun adventures and excursions.

While growing up, he was good at finding ways to get out of doing chores around the house, he got away with it too, because he was the "Baby".  His favorite saying was, "If you don't use your head, you will have to use your hands.  He must have used his head, because he was really good at not using his hands!.

Punny was the "Family Historian", he could recall names and details about family members from several generations back.  He was very knowledgeable about both sides of the family.

On March 23, 1985, he married his loving wife Betty Ann Kagler. Together they loved and raised four boys.  He was a father figure to them.  He not only loved them, he taught them things like driving, hunting, and other things.  During his long illness, these young men, along with his devoted and loving wife, provided loving care for him.  He loved them and they proved their love for him also, "Doing good deeds always pays off".

Curtis was employed at Riverside Medical Center and later at Dairy  Farmers of America, better known as the Borden's Milk Plant in Franklinton.  Curtis was a long time employee, working there for many years until he retired.

Curtis was proceded in death by his father, Maurice Toomer, mother Allie (Magee) Toomer and brother James Monroe Toomer.

Curtis (Punny) leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife of 33 years, Betty Ann Kagler Toomer of Franklinton, LA. Four sons, Marcus L Kagler, Marcus  Brooks (Heather), Elijah Brooks and Devontae Kagler Toomer all of Franklinton, LA., grandson Joseph Brooks of Franklinton LA.

He will be greatly missed by his siblings, Ella R. Toomer Wright, Freedie Toomer Benton of Monroe,LA, Rodis S Toomer (Rayenel), and Burnell Toomer Brown of Franklinton, LA one aunt Mabel Toomer of Oakland, Ca and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, November 2, 2018 from 2 pm to 7 pm at Cook-Richmond Funeral Home in Franklinton. The Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 1 pm at New Jerusalem Baptist Church.
