Bicyclist Killed in St. Tammany Crash

Tuesday night (October 30, 2018), Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop L responded to a fatal
crash involving a bicycle on LA 36 near 7th Street in Covington. The cyclist did not survive the crash. Troopers are withholding the name of the deceased pending notification to next of kin.

The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the cyclist was riding a mountain style bicycle westbound on LA 36 on or near the solid white fog line. Troopers determined that the bicycle was not equipped with safety lamps as required by Louisiana revised statue. The cyclist was wearing dark colored clothing and was not wearing a helmet.

The crash occurred as 26-year-old Kristofer Donelle Brumfield of Covington was driving a 2014 Nissan Maxima westbound on LA 36 approaching the cyclist from the rear. The right front bumper of the Maxima impacted the bicycle. The impact caused the bicyclist to be ejected. He was transported to St. Tammany Parish Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash.
