Obituary

Sherman Peters
January 11, 1927 - February 22, 2018



Sherman Peters, age 91 and a resident of Angie, died February 22, 2018.
He was the eighth of eleven children born to the late Loran and Nazel Peters born Janurary 10, 1927. He Attended Jones Creek Elementary and Wesley Ray High School.
At the early age of seventeen Brother Peters enlisted in United States Navy. During his Tour of Duty, Steward's Mate First Class Sherman Peters received the American Area and the Victory World War II medals, medals intended to recognize those military members who had performed military service in the American Theater. He was discharged Honorably for his gallant services to the United States Navy on November 4, 1947.
He united in holy matrimony on November 29,1947 to his childhood sweetheart Ora Mae Burrell Peters. To this union seven children was born. One son Gerald Glenn Peters and on granddaughter Onieka Jones preceded him in death. They lived a World -wind romance for 70 years.
Brother Peters accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mary's Chapel United Methodist Church where Rev. S. C. Reed was Pastor.  He and his wife moved to New Orleans LA in 1948 and soon joined the Beulah Land Baptist Church where the Rev. David O. Spears was the pastor. He and his wife worked tirelessly in God's Ministry. Bro Peters was an ordained Deacon, he taught Sunday School and served as a trustee.. He was also over the Junior Choir.  After Hurricane Katrina, their oldest daughter moved Brother and Sister Peters to Slidell, LA where they have made Great North Shore Full Gospel Baptist Church their home. The three have served faithfully under the Leadership of Bishop Robert J. Taylor Senior Pastor and First Lady,  Elder Nawal C. Taylor.  Brother and Sister Peters served as the Father and Mother Of Greater North Shore FGBC and Charnelle serves as a deacon.
Brothers Peters leaves to mourn his devoted wife and daughter, Ora Mae Peters and Charnelle P. Brown of Slidell LA; daugthers, Gail Peters of Jacksonville, FL, Julia (Vincent) Paul of Jacksonville FL; and Roslyn (Derrick) Bagley of Woodbridge, VA; two sons, Sherman Peters of Fontana, CA and Geary (Ieasha) Peters of Rancho Cucamonga, CA fifteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
A funeral service is set for Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11:00 am at Mary's Chapel United Methodist Church in Angie.
