Obituary

Walter James
April 27, 1942 - December 16, 2017



Walter James was born on April 27, 1942 to the late Nathaniel and Mertice Estella Magee James. He was an active Deacon at Little Union Missionary Baptist Church in Mt. Hermon, LA until his illness prevented him from going. He graduated from Vernon High School in Mt. Hermon, LA. After graduation he joined the United States Army where he was stationed and worked as a truck driver in Bremerhaven, Germany. He retired in 2005.
Walter was previously married to Inez Rayford to which this union, one daughter, Darlene James was born. Walter met no strangers, he loved walking and talking, and always had a smile. One day while riding around trying to get familiar wit this small little town (Bogalusa) he saw this walking trail in Good Year Park, and it quickly became his favorite place to go walking. He never met a stranger and at that very dame park is where he met his sweetheart, and new wife, Yvonne R. James.
Walter leaves to cherish his memories, his loving, faithful and devoted wife, Yvonne R. James; one step daughter, LaKendra G. (Scottland) Lewis of Bogalusa, LA; four step- sons, Darcy N. Garrett, Jr. of Bogalusa, LA, Calvin (Donna) Rayford, of Graham, Washington, Raymond and Roman Rayford both of New Orleans, LA; two sisters, Alice James Kelly of Pflugerville, TX, and Listria James of New Orleans, LA; three brothers, Bobbie James, Horace (Patricia) James both of Franklinton, LA and Forace (Kathleen) James of Mt. Hermon, LA; six brothers- in law, Jackie Robinson, Sr. of Columbia, MS, Robert (Brenda) Robinson, Rev. Victor Sr. (Charolotte) Robinson, Ceaser (Casandra) Robinson, Anthony, Sr. (Yolonda) Robinson, and Ricky R. Robinson all of Bogalusa, LA; six sisters- in- law, Mary Robinson, Linda Nunnery, Victoria Jefferson, Willoya (Fredrick) Magee all of Bogalusa, LA, and Letina (TarQuin) Mearidyof Covington, LA; thirteen step-grandchildren, Jaren J. Hatcher, Kerron Conerly Jr. both of Bogalusa, LA, Metrell Rayford of Houston, TX, Rauschandra, George, Roman, Raymond, Roshell, and Sherriel Coats, all of New Orleans, LA, Alainia Coats of Atlanta, GA, Calvin Rayford Jr. of New York City, Caesar Rayford of Salt Lake City, UT, Reginal Sistrunk of Portland, OR, and Daria Moore of Hawaii; and 9 step-great grandchildren; a special niece, Virginia Nell Issac of New Orleans, LA; a special friend, Rosaline Weary of Angie, LA; and a host of family and friends;
Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel James and Mertice Estella Magee James; one daughter, Darlene James; five sisters, Alicia Magee, PoLay James, Lattie Mae James, Audrey Weary, and Madeline James; two brothers, Slade Thomas, and Curtis James; a father-in-law, Rev. Clarence Robinson, Sr., a mother-in-law, Vergie Lee May Robinson; and a brother-in-law, Clarence Robinson, Jr.
Funeral service will be at 7:00PM on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Crain and Sons Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Freddie Deer– Officiating.
Interment, Dismissal will be held on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at the Bogalusa Cemetery . Crain and Sons Funeral Home – Bogalusa are in charge of arrangements.
