Washington Parish District 5 Councilman Pete Thomas announced his resignation from the Council at the Parish Council meeting Monday night (October 23, 2017). The reason for the resignation is that Thomas, who has served for six years, no longer lives in District 5. Thomas and his family suffered the loss of their house in a April, 2017 fire.
Parish President Richard Thomas and Pete's fellow Councilmen praised Thomas for his years of service and wished him and his family well.
As mandated by the parish's Home Rule Charter, a replacement will be appointed by the Council to serve until an election is held to fill the balance of Thomas' term. The interim appointment will be ineligible to be a candidate in that election.
