WP Government Takes Care of Routine & Not So Routine Matters

Throughout the last few days, Washington Parish Government has been communicating with residents regarding the threats posed by Tropical Storm Harvey. Communication has been through their website, their Facebook page, and the Facebook page of the Washington Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. At the Washington Parish Council meeting Monday (August 28, 2017) evening, Parish President Richard Thomas reported on the preparations for expected weather concerns associated with Tropical Storm Harvey. In addition to addressing routine matters, the Washington Parish Council 

  • made a presentation to the family of Ronda Sylvest Varnado (see separate story)
  • increased the number of Poole's Bluff Nature Park Advisory Council members from five to seven.
  • approved a resolution in support of the Washington Parish Watermelon Growers and Vegetable Farmers
  • heard a report from Washington Parish Library Director Al Barron that efforts are being made to provide library services at Angie and to expand the facility at Enon. (beginning at 23:40 into video of the meeting)
  • heard reports from Finance Director Donna Graham, Public Works Director Leo Lucchesi, and Transportation Manager Donnell Merritt. (beginning at 28:55 into video of the meeting).
