Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta has announced a
major energy agreement and economic development between Energy, Calpine, and the
Parish of Washington. The result is expected to be a more reliable energy source
and the addition of millions of dollars in economic development to Washington
Parish and surrounding parishes.
The abandoned, partially built Calpine power
plant near Bogalusa will be demolished and a 360-megawatt, natural gas-fired
peaking plant will be built on the site, with Entergy being the
owner.
Washington Parish President Richard Thomas said, “I am excited about
this development for the people of Washington Parish.
Details from a 11 am
news conference today in Metairie will be provided when they are made
available.
