Mandeville Father (18) Booked on Juvenile Cruelty Charge

On Thursday January 26, 2017 The Mandeville Police Department arrested 18 year old Stephen Michael Dufresne (18) for Second Degree Cruelty to a Juvenile. Officers responded about 5:00 am to Lakeview Regional Hospital in reference to a one month old male infant with internal bleeding to his head. The infant had been brought to the emergency room late on the previous night by his grandmother after she arrived at the residence and discovered the infant limp and having difficulty breathing. The infant was later airlifted to Children’s Hospital in New Orleans where he remains in critical condition in the Pediatric ICU.
Given the nature of the infant’s injury (consistent with being shaken violently) and information learned after interviewing the parents, detectives applied for an arrest  warrant for Stephen Michael Dufresne, the baby's father, and booked him into jail. The charge of 2nd Degree Cruelty carries a penalty of up to forty years.
The Louisiana Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) has also been notified of the incident. This matter is still under investigation.
