Washington Parish Sheriff Signs Onto Nationwide ICAC Task Force
The Washington Parish Sheriff has recently joined forces with Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill and Task Force Commander Chris Masters on the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. This national task force, which brings together over 5400 local, state, and federal agencies, was developed in response to the increasing number of crimes against children being perpetrated on the internet, primarily through dating apps and social media platforms.
Sheriff Smith would like to remind the parents of Washington Parish to be mindful of their children’s activity when using the internet, dating apps, and social media platforms. In recent years, predators have taken full advantage of the anonymity offered by digital platforms to target minors for abuse. Please carefully monitor your children’s internet activity, and if you suspect something, do not hesitate to reach out to the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office at 985-839-3434. Our investigators are actively working to catch those using digital platforms to seek out minors for abuse, and information from parents is a key part of ensuring the safety of our children and of our community.
