An explosion (or explosions) at Smitty's Supply, Inc. in Roseland (first call came in at 12;53 PM) has triggered response by emergency personnel from Tangipahoa Parish and nearby parishes. Heavy smoke and fire has been reported. Highway 51 has been shut down and Tangipahoa Parish Government ordered a mandatory evacuation of the area consisting of a one-mile radius of the intersection of Highways 51 and 10. More than 35 agencies are responding to the explosion/fire, including more than 20 fire agencies from 4 parishes, 8 law enforcement agencies, DEQ, and other agencies. Tangipahoa Parish President Robbie Miller has stated that the effort is to protect people, structures, and the environment. No injuries have been reported and no cause of the incident has been identified as of this report.

Smitty's Supply, Inc. manufactures and distributes industrial & commercial lubricating fluids and employs more than 450 employees.
