Angola Prison Rodeo is in October - Get Your Tickets Now

The Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections is pleased to announce tickets are now on sale for the upcoming annual Angola Prison Rodeo held at Louisiana State Penitentiary (LSP) located in West Feliciana Parish.

Members of the public are encouraged to attend “The Wildest Show in the South” by purchasing a $20 ticket for a reserved seat. The rodeo dates are October 5, 12, 19, and 26. The gates will open each Sunday at 8 a.m. with the rodeo set to start at 2 p.m. Rodeo goers should arrive early in order to experience everything the event has to offer from hobby crafts to festivities.

“On behalf of my entire team, we would like to extend a warm welcome to citizens near and far to come out and enjoy the rodeo by purchasing your tickets right now,” said Darrel Vannoy, warden, Louisiana State Penitentiary. “The family-friendly event offers the best in prison rodeo excitement and never disappoints.”

The incarcerated men at Angola, who are cowboys for the day, will compete in signature rodeo events like convict poker, wild cow milking, bull riding, and the grand finale Guts-n-Glory. The rodeo also features bands and a variety of food options. Rodeo attendees can shop unique and affordable inmate-made arts and crafts, ranging from jewelry, leathercrafts, paintings, woodworking, lawn and garden furniture, barbecue pits, and toys.

Children can enjoy special attractions geared just for them, such as pony rides, carnival games, an antique carousel, and lots more.

To purchase rodeo tickets in advance, visit the official online outlet, angolarodeo.com, or call (225) 655-2030 or (225) 655-2607 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Department does warn that the authenticity of tickets purchased elsewhere cannot be guaranteed and to avoid the potential of third-party scam sites.

Rodeo proceeds assist with funding cutting-edge reentry and rehabilitation programs, which work to lower recidivism and reduce the number of crime victims.
