James Robert Singleton

January 30, 1936 - December 10, 2025

James Robert Singleton, age 89 and a resident of Franklinton, passed away Wednesday morning December 10, 2025. He worked in the sales, service and parts industry for tractors and large trucks nearly all his life. James worked at and managed businesses in the Franklinton area and also managed a tractor dealership near Baton Rouge for many years. He opened Singleton Equipment, now known as Singleton Sales & Service, near his home in Franklinton in 1981 and worked alongside his family for over 20 years until retiring. James also farmed for peanuts and vegetables for many years and he enjoyed working in his yard and flowers beds. He loved playing the guitar and often got together with friends and family to play and sing gospel and country music. James loved spending time with his family and was forever a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Survived by: Wife of 70 years: Myrtle Sheridan Singleton of Franklinton; 2 Daughters and a Son in law: Debra Lynn Laney, Alisa Ann and Michael O’Connor all of Baton Rouge; Son and Daughter in law: James Michael “Mike” and Bridgette Singleton of Franklinton; Grandchildren and Spouses: Sarah Singleton, Jennifer and Craig Bahlinger, Ryan and Karlee Laney, Brooke and Kevin O’Neil, John Michael Singleton, Mary Ann and Elijah Alexander, Rebekah Singleton, Caitlyn O’Connor, Brianna O’Connor; Great-grandchildren: Cole, Aubrey, Cade, Graham, Barrett, Reese, Wynn, J.J.; Sisters in law and a Brother in law: Frances Holmes, Marilyn and Jimmy Bankston; Also numerous nieces, nephews and other family members

He was preceded in death by his son John Allen Singleton, parents Theodore Singleton and Effie Mae Yates Singleton, son in law Denton Laney, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, father in law and mother in law O’Neal Sheridan and Leona McCain Sheridan and other family members.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Tuesday December 16th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm Tuesday with Dr. Keith Sheridan and Rev. Leon Hickman officiating. Burial will follow in Ellis Cemetery.
