Obituary

William Herbert Nelson

February 23, 1949 - November 28, 2025

Mr. William Herbert Nelson was born on February 23, 1949, to the late Josie Faye Nelson Bickham and Freddie H. Jefferson. He grew up in Angie, Louisiana, where he learned the value of family, hard work, and community. William carried those values with him throughout his entire life.

William was a man full of spirit, humor, and love. He was a proud Philadelphia Eagles fan-win or lose, he cheered with his whole heart. Game days were special to him and he could often be found settled in his favorite spot, ready to shout at the TV, celebrate a touchdown, or shake his head when his Eagles made a tough play. Those who knew him will always remember how his eyes lit up when football season came around.

He also had a lifelong love for wrestling. Whether it was old-school legends or the new generation wrestlers, William enjoyed every match. Wrestling brought him joy, entertainment, and plenty of excitement. He watched it with the enthusiasm of someone who never lost touch with his youthful spirit.

William’s presence was strong but comforting. He was the kind of man who loved to talk, laugh, and tell stories-stories that always managed to teach a lesson or leave someone smiling. He was deeply protective of those he loved and carried a quiet wisdom that guided his family through many moments in life. His kindness, straightforwardness, and willingness to help others made him a respected figure among friends and family.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Vendora Parker Nelson and two loving children, William A. Nelson and Demonica S. Greely, both of Bogalusa, LA. He also leaves to cherish his memory three brothers, Barry (Paula) Bickham of New Orleans, LA, Freddie H. Jefferson II and Kenneth (Maxine Cunningham) Jefferson of Baton Rouge, LA; and one sister, Linda Bickham of Opelousas, LA.

His legacy continues through six grandchildren, JaFonzo Mingo, Leray Mingo, Quantasia Lewis, Quanus Greely, Clyderrica Smith and Kentrell Burns; and ten great-grandchildren who adored him deeply. He also leaves behind a loving companion of many years, Rosaline Brown, who stood by his side and brought him comfort, laughter, and companionship into his life.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Bickham, and four brothers, Michael Bickham, James Bickham, Ricky Bickham and Derron D. Jefferson.

Though he has departed this earthly life, the memory of William Herbert Nelson will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His laughter, his loyalty, his love of sports, and the joy he brought into any room will never be forgotten.
