Tropical Disturbances Today

Disturbance 1.  Potential Tropical Cyclone Nine is located about 170 miles NW of the eastern tip of Buba moving NW at 7 MPH with 35 MPH maximum sustained winds. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts. The system is expected to become a tropical depression or storm later today or tonight. Gradual strengthening is expected thereafter, with the system forecast to become a hurricane by late Monday. Interests in the Bahamas and along the southeast coast of the United States from Florida to North Carolina should monitor the progress of this system. On the forecast track, the center of the system is expected to move across the central and northwestern Bahamas this weekend and approach the southeast U.S. coast early next week. Formation chance through 48 hours...high...90 percent formation chance through 7 days... high...90 percent.

Disturbance 2.  Hurricane Humberto is a category 4 hurricane and is expected to remain a powerful major hurricane through early next week. Humberto is located about 375 miles NE of the Northern Leeward Islands moving west at 6 MPH with maximum sustained winds of 145 MPH. There are no coastal watches or warnings in effect but interests in Bermuda should monitor the progress of Humberto.
