Disturbance 1. Southwestern Gulf (AL98): A disturbance is located about 75 miles off the coast of northeastern Mexico or southern Texas coastline. The system could become a short-lived tropical depression before it moves inland this afternoon or evening. interests along portions of northeastern Mexico and southern Texas should monitor the progress of this system. Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...50 percent and formation chance through 7 days...medium...50 percent.
Disturbance 2. Tropical Storm Erin is becoming better organized and expected to become a hurricane later today and it could become a major hurricane by this weekend.. Erin is currently located about 520 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands moving WNW at 17 MPH with 70 MPH maximum sustained winds. This motion is expected to continue into the weekend. On the forecast track, the center of Erin is likely to move near or just north of the northern Leeward Islands over the weekend.
