Obituary

Jackie Robinson

August 23, 1950 - July 19, 2025

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my father’s house are many mansions: If it were not so, I would have told you, I go to prepare a place for you, and I will come again and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.”  John 14: 1-4

We know that God shall wipe away every tear. Jackie Robinson departed this life on Saturday, July 19, 2025. He was 74 years old.

Jackie was born on August 23, 1950, to the late Rev. Clarence Robinson, Sr. and Vergie Lee May Robinson. He was the third child of thirteen children. Jackie was born and raised in a Christian home. He was taught about God and the Bible at an early age. The Golden rule was always enforced in our home, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.“ Our dad always instilled in all his children that trouble was easy to get in but hard to get out. During his early years, Jackie grew up in St. John Elizabeth Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop John White. Later, he joined Glorious Church under the leadership of his brother Elder Victor Robinson, Sr.

Jackie attended Central Memorial High School. During his high school years, he was an active member of the Central Memorial High school marching band where he played his favorite musical instrument, the clarinet, which he played masterfully. He graduated in 1969, the last class to graduate from Central Memorial High School.

Jackie was married at a young age to Gwendolyn (Sand Hill) Robinson. To this union three children were born: the late Jackie D. Robinson, Christopher Robinson, and Rosalyn Robinson Smith.

Jackie had many talents. In the late 1980’s he and his siblings started a gospel singing group called the Gospel Soul Seekers. Later, the group was renamed the Robinson Gospel Singers.

His favorite place to go in the mornings was Hardees. There he and several of his friends formed a group called “Hardee’s Gentlemen” He was also a member of a motorcycle group called “The Rough Riders” which included his brothers, uncles, and cousin.

After graduation, Jackie was employed at Crown Zellerbach which was later renamed Gaylord Container. He was also employed with Joe Miles Inc. until he retired. Jackie continued to work even after retiring doing odd jobs and helping others. If you needed transportation, Jackie would take you anywhere you needed to go.

He was always busy. Our brother lived up to his biblical teaching that our father instilled in us at an early age and that was: Whatsoever your hands findeth to do, do it with all your might; for there is no work, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. Ecclesiastes 9:10.

Jackie was a loving, giving, kindhearted and humble man who loved helping others. He will be deeply missed but not forgotten.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: one son, Christopher Robinson of D’Iberville, Mississippi; one daughter, Rosalyn (Patrick) Robinson-Smith of Bogalusa, LA; three stepchildren, Robert (Dorcas) Magee, Crystal Magee of San Diego, TX. and O’Bryan Magee of Bogalusa, LA; six grandchildren, Joshua Robinson, De’Zyriah Rankins, D’Sha Rankins, Khalil Smith, Patrick Smith, Jr., and Christian Robinson; six great grandchildren; Sian Robinson, Joshua Robinson II, Remington Webb II, D’Marielle Bickham, J’Oir Hooks and J’Ari Hooks; six step-grandchildren, Jamorian Magee, Jamal Magee, Laila Magee, Logan Magee, O’Bryan Magee, Jr. and Ezra Magee; two God Children, Christian Holloway and Lamesha Holloway of Bogalusa, LA; five brothers, Robert Charles (Brenda) Robinson, Elder Victor Robinson, Sr., Ceasar (Casandra) Robinson, Anthony (Yolanda) Robinson, Sr. of Bogalusa, LA and Ricky (Aleshia) Robinson of Angie, LA; six sisters, Mary Louise Robinson, Linda Nunnery, Victoria Jefferson, Yvonne James, Willoya (Fredrick) Magee of Bogalusa, LA. and Letina Robinson Of Covington, LA; three uncles, Jerry (T.
