The Slidell Police reports that Tuesday (July 29, 2025) evening, the SPD Canine and Narcotics Division ran into a '𝘳𝘢𝘳𝘦' situation which started as a typical traffic stop.
Officers observed a vehicle traveling down Old Spanish Trail and noticed it didn’t have functioning brake lights. They decided to pull the vehicle over, and upon contacting the two male occupants, officers noticed both men were acting unusually nervous. Was it the flashing lights? No. Were there drugs in the car? Also, no. Their anxiety stemmed from something else entirely . . . a good old-fashioned beef heist.
Officers found inside the vehicle approximately $1,500 worth of USDA ribeye steaks and slabs of beef brisket. Moments before being pulled over, the pair had gone on a ‘five-finger discount’ shopping spree. Instead of firing up the grill, both suspects, identified as 55-year-old John Garriga (Gulfport, MS) and 66-year-old Charles Walker (Biloxi, MS), ended up behind bars on felony theft and possession of stolen property charges.
***All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty***
