STPSO Highway Enforcement Unit has Busy February

The St. Tammany Parish Highway Enforcement Unit had a productive and busy February. Here are some of the noteworthy incidents:
  • On February 9th, a traffic stop on I-12 identified  Ezequiel Guardiola Carreon (37), a known drug trafficker and illegal alien with a record of numerous arrests and who had been deported several times. Carreon was taken into custody by the U.S. Border Patrol and has since been deported.
  • On February 15th, a traffic stop on I-12 resulted in the arrest of Shannon Thompson (42) of Texas. Thompson was in possession of approximately eight ounces of cocaine and a small amount of marijuana.
  • Also on February 15th, a traffic stop was conducted on a known money smuggler. He has been stopped multiple times with large amounts of cash, proven to be “dirty money” from narcotics trafficking. Deputies located and sized $7,800 of suspected “dirty money” during the traffic stop. The investigation is still on-going in this case.
  • On February 23rd, the St. Tammany Parish Highway Enforcement Unit arrested Christopher Cleaver (39), for driving a stolen vehicle on I-12.
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith says, “After only a few months, the Highway Enforcement Unit has proven to be successful. Proactive enforcement on our interstates will continue. We are catching some bad criminals, and taking them off the streets. There is no doubt in my mind that bigger things have yet to come.”
