The Washington Parish Sheriff is happy to announce that our office has been awarded a reimbursement grant for the purchase of three litter enforcement surveillance cameras. This grant was administered through the State of Louisiana and the Office of Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser as a part of their Keep Louisiana Beautiful initiative.
With these funds, WPSO will purchase and install litter surveillance cameras at strategic locations throughout the Parish. These cameras will help us identify litter hotspots and hold individuals and businesses accountable for disposing of trash along the beautiful highways and public spaces of Washington Parish.
Our cameras will be hidden, they will be moved frequently, and they will be monitored around the clock by our dedicated staff. Most of the citizens of this Parish do the right thing and dispose of trash properly; these cameras will help us to identify and hold accountable the small percentage of people who choose to litter, and we will enforce Louisiana litter laws in Washington Parish to the fullest extent. Our citizens deserve roadways and public spaces that are clean, safe, and that they can be proud of.
This grant is part of a larger effort by Sheriff Smith to clean up our community and address the growing litter problems here at home. For any citizens or local businesses interested in helping to clean up Washington Parish, please reach out to the Sheriff’s Office so that we can work together in accomplishing that goal. A special thanks goes out to Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser and his office for helping to make Washington Parish beautiful.
