Mt. Hermon Man Indicted for Murder of Franklinton Man

District Attorney Collin Sims reports that on July 9, 2025, a Washington Parish grand jury indicted 34-year-old Jerry Charles Baker, Jr. of Mount Hermon for second degree murder and possession of a firearm by a felon in relation to the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Ryan Simmons of Franklinton on January 2, 2025.  Sargeant Justin Blackwell with the Bogalusa Police Department headed the investigation.  Assistant District Attorney Ronald Gracianette presented the case to the grand jury.

The Bogalusa Police Department had reported on March 27, 2025 that Officers with the Bogalusa Police Department located and arrested Jerry Charles Baker, Jr. on felony warrant charges of Second Degree Murder, Illegal Use Of Weapons, and Possession of Weapons by a Convicted Felon. Baker was reportedly in possession of a stolen firearm and legend drugs that resulted in additional charges.
