Deacon Rodney Robertson, Sr.
August 28, 1947 - July 23, 2020



Deacon Dr. Rodney Robertson, Sr. was born August 28, 1947 in Bogalusa, Louisiana to the late Andrew Charles “A.C.” and Gladys “Lil Babe” Robertson. He transitioned from this life into the next on Thursday, July 23, 2020, peacefully at his home with family.

Deacon Dr. Rodney Robertson, Sr. grew up in St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Bogalusa, LA., where he was Trustee. Later, he joined the Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he became a Deacon and served there for 26 years. Deacon Robertson was truly a servant of the Lord; besides fishing, and coaching Little League, he loved helping and feeding his children, grandchildren, other people, and pets. He was a 1967 Central Memorial High School graduate. He also achieved his Bachelor degree from Southeastern Louisiana Bible College of Slidell, LA; and a Master and Doctor of Theology from Rodney was a retired U.S. Army Staff Sergeant with 17 years of military service as an Ammunition Specialist. During his service in the military, with numerous injuries, he did four tours of duty in Vietnam, 2 tours in Korea, and 1 tour in Saigon with Purple Heart. Additionally, during the Civil Rights Movement in Bogalusa, LA., Rodney Robertson was a member of the Deacons of Defense, and a vital part of integrating the “ACME CafĂ©” in the fall of 1964; which resulted in him being subpoenaed to testify against the Knights of the KKK, along with four other black men, in the United States District Court at New Orleans, Louisiana in 1965.

He leaves to cherish his memories and loving care for 28 years, his devoted wife, Rev. Dr. Katherline S. Robertson; five sons: Zaid (LaRobyn) Houston or Abita Springs, LA., Derrick, Malon, Marlin, and Rodney (Shakira) Robertson, Jr. of Bogalusa, Louisiana; two daughters: Chiquita “Niki” Robertson of Boston, Massachusetts and Kaya Houston of Bogalusa; eight grandchildren, Ajah, Zaid Jr., Zyon, Zamyr, and Keanu Houston; Layla, Rodney III, and Elijah Robertson; three brothers, Charles (Wanda) Robertson of Duncan, Oklahoma, Willie (Linda) Robertson of Gulfport, Mississippi, Artha (Barbara) Robertson of Newport News, Virginia; four sisters, Barbara Harry, Mary (Richard) Owens, Yolanda (Burdex) Washington, and Gladys Nell Lampton of Bogalusa, Louisiana; four brothers-in-law: Laverne (Laura) Spikes, Willie Spikes, James (Patricia) Spikes, and P.K. (Alice) Spikes, Jr.; and six sisters-in-law: Jerrie (Alvin) Pichon, Carolyn (Donald) Jones, Shirley Jackson, Arnetta (Ronald) Taylor, Yvonne Paige, and Linda (Jason) Wilson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives.

A Dismissal Service for Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 3:00PM with Rev. Christopher Matthews - Officiating.

Crain and Sons Funeral Home in Bogalusa are in charge of arrangements.
