Lock Your Doors or Lose Your Stuff

St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Randy Smith is reminding citizens to lock their car doors this holiday
season. With all of the excitement of the holiday season it is easy to forget there are thieves out there waiting to prey on individuals who have let their guard down.

Early Wednesday morning (December 18, 2019), STPSO deputies were dispatched to the Eden Isles area of Slidell in reference to two individuals dressed in dark clothing, walking around the neighborhood pulling on vehicle door handles. Deputies patrolling the area located Chance Evans (19) and and a 16-year-old male walking in the neighborhood. The two teens, who are both from the Slidell area, admitted they were looking for unlocked vehicles in order to burglarize them. They also admitted to having made access into two unlocked vehicles.

Evans was arrested on one count of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile. The juvenile was released to the custody of a responsible adult.  The investigation into the vehicle burglaries remains ongoing and additional charges are possible.

“Vehicle burglaries are crimes of opportunity,” Sheriff Smith said.  “Even if you are parked in your own driveway or just running into a store for a quick minute, it is imperative to always lock your vehicle doors and to never leave purses or valuables in sight.”

Anyone who believes they may be the victim of a vehicles burglary is asked to call the STPSO at (985) 898-2338.
