Slidell: Suicidal Man Prompts School Lock-Down

Shortly before 12:30 p.m. yesterday (Tuesday, October 8th), Slidell Police were made aware of a
man, who was streaming a live video on Facebook, threatening to commit suicide. It was determined that the man was in the woods, somewhere in the vicinity of Gause Boulevard and I-10. Based on the information received, there was a possibility the man was very close to Little Oak Middle School and Boyet Jr. High School.

In coordination with the St. Tammany Parish Public School System, the decision was made to lock down both schools. At some point, someone THOUGHT they saw the suicidal man, with a gun, in the wood line near the schools. This prompted a large law enforcement response from both the Slidell Police Department and the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office. A perimeter was established around both schools while law enforcement officers searched the nearby woods.

The man in question, who was not from the Slidell area, was later found at the TA Travel Center on Gause Boulevard. It was determined that he was never near the school property. The man was transported to a nearby hospital to be evaluated. At this time, the man is not facing any criminal charges.

Slidell Police report that at NO TIME was there an immediate threat to schools; however, based off the information received at the time of this incident, the actions taken were to ensure the safety of the school children. The incident was resolved shortly after 2 p.m., after determining there was no threat to the nearby schools.
