Dr. Lewis received her B.A. in the English Language and Literature at Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul, Korea, in 1968, after which she served as an English Teacher in Kyungbuk Province, Korea, from 1969-1979, until she saved enough money to come to America to study. She attended the University of Central Oklahoma where she received her M.Ed. in Guidance and Counseling in 1981; and attended Graduate School at Mississippi State University where she obtained her Ph.D. in Education Psychology/School Psychology in 1984.

After receiving her Doctorate, she began employment with the Bogalusa School Board. From 1990-1992, she served as a School Psychologist for New Orleans Public Schools. Following her marriage, she returned to Bogalusa where she resumed her employment with the Bogalusa City Schools.

She was a member of the National Association of Education, Louisiana Association of Education, the National Association of School Psychologists and the Louisiana School Psychological Association. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Bogalusa where she served on the Flower Committee. Susan was a member of the Bogalusa Garden Guild.

Dr. Lewis legally immigrated to America and became a United States Citizen. As she liked to explain, she “passed the test.” She loved her new country and its values of liberty and justice. She enjoyed working with flowers and was often seen tending to the flowers at her home. She loved being with her grandchildren and encouraging them to do well in school.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday August 24, 2019, at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Bogalusa and visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:00 pm at the church.

The family requests donations in lieu of flowers be made to the First Baptist Church or to Gideons International c/o the Bogalusa Franklinton Camp of the Gideons, P.O. Box 871, Bogalusa, LA 70429.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home.
