Six Injured After Vehicle Drives Into Abita Gas Station

St. Tammany Parish Sheriffs’ deputies were dispatched to an Abita Springs gas station shortly before 9:30 a.m. Friday morning (July 22, 2019, in reference to a vehicle that had driven into the building.
A silver Honda CR-V had driven across the parking lot of the Texaco station at the corner of Highway 59 and Harrison Avenue (Dog Pound Road) and had entered the store through the front glass. It came to a stop several feet fully inside the business, causing extensive damage to the building and injuring six customers.

Five of the customers and the driver of the vehicle were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries. The sixth customer was airlifted to another hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver, 72-year-old Abita Springs woman, was cited for L.R.S. 14:39 Negligent Injuring.
