Obituary

Edward Barber
December 25, 1929 - May 14, 2019



James Edward Barber, age 89 and a resident of the Hackley Community, died Monday night May 13, 2019 at his home. He was retired after a long career with the maintenance department of the Washington Parish School System, working at schools throughout the parish. Edward was also a good “handy-man” as he was a carpenter and did plumbing as well as mechanic work on tractors and other machinery. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, especially at his camp along the Pearl River. Edward enjoyed dancing and even later in life was teaching his grandchildren how to line-dance and do the “jitterbug”.

Survived by: 2 Sons and Daughters in law: Dale and Kim Barber, Laney and Inez Barber all of the Hackley Community; Daughter: Deborah Magee of Hackley; 4 Grandchildren and a Spouse: Kirsten Barber, Lance Barber, Lane Barber, Keely and Paul Lozier; 2 Great-grandchildren: Gavin Lozier, Amanda Lozier; Sister and Brother in law: Doris and Richard Holmes of Franklinton; Also numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Vernie Dillon Barber, daughter Glenda Magee, granddaughter Shaena Branch, parents Wilbur Barber and Emma Thomas Barber, brother Cecil Barber, sisters Ada Merle Morris and Juanita Perreand.

Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Wednesday May 15th from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm and after 9:00 am on Thursday. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 10:00 am Thursday with Eld. Duane Ball and Rev. Calvin Wheat officiating. Burial will follow in the Magee Cemetery at Lawrence’s Creek.
