The initial investigation led Troopers to determine that the crash occurred as Gomez was southbound on LA 437. As Gomez’s truck traveled through a curve, the right side tires exited the roadway and struck a tree, which had fallen near the edge of the roadway. Gomez’s vehicle then traveled back to the left, across the center line, and into the northbound travel lane where it was struck by a vehicle driven by 24-year-old Katelyn Zeigler of Folsom.
Gomez was not restrained at the time of the crash. He was ejected from his vehicle and sustained severe injuries. He was transported to St. Tammany Parish Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival. Zeigler was properly restrained and sustained minor injury in the crash.
