Election Called to Amend Washington Parish Home Rule Charter

One of the actions taken by the Washington Parish Council last Monday (May 20, 2019) was to hold a Public Hearing and then to approve an ordinance ordering and calling a special election to be held on Saturday, October 12, 2019 to authorize the amendment and restatement, in its entirety, of the Home Rule Charter of the Parish of Washington. The Council has been working on updating the charter for a long time and has invited and received input from the public.

The Council also
  • approved an ordinance adjusting commercial customer fees of the Choctaw Road Landfill
  • approved an ordinance creating the 2020 Census Washington Parish Complete Count Committee
  • approved a resolution related to funding of a sidewalk project in downtown Franklinton
  • approved a resolution related to and agreement with Barriere Construction Co., LLC for asphalt overlay on Greentree Drive and Dollar Road
  • acted on three resolutions of appointment to Washington Parish Communication District, Washington Parish Fire District No. 1, and Mt. Hermon Water District
  • heard reports from Parish President Thomas and his staff.
