Obituary

Robert "Bob" Breland
March 2, 1935 - March 28, 2019



Robert Earl “Rob” Breland, 84, born in Bogalusa on March 2, 1935, died at 4:07 p.m. on Thursday, March 28 at his home in Pine with family members near. His death was the result of Lewy Body Dementia, which lasted about five years.

A member of Briarwood Baptist Church, he was a graduate of Pine High School and a long-time painting contractor in the area. He later worked for Dixie Life Insurance (now Southland) for many years, retiring as a supervisor.

He made yearly trips to the Smoky Mountains and other places with his family and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed being outdoors and growing a garden as long as health allowed.

He is survived by his wife of over 65 years, Barbara “Bob Ann” Lang Breland; two daughters and a son-in-law, Ann Dickinson, Kaye and Mike Byrd, all of Pine; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert “Ken” and Christi Breland of Patterson, LA; three grandchildren, Amy Dickinson and Erin Byrd of Pine and John Michael Byrd of Hoboken, NJ; two great-grandsons, Talyn Love and Enoch Merritt of Pine; a sister, Dene Burris of Franklinton; two sisters-in-law, Rachel Breland of Butler, AL and Gerri Breland of Berlin, NJ; two brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, Bill and Daisy Lang, Mike and Linda Lang; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Sharon and Robert Ard; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was a daughter, Robin Carol Breland; a granddaughter, Shannon Byrd Love; his parents, Odis E. “Ode” Breland and Estelle Baughman Breland; four brothers, Percy Breland, Murphy J. Breland, Michael Glynn Breland and Billy Ray Breland; two sisters, Ada Mae O’Quinn and Hazel Fauquier.

Visitation will be held Sunday, March 31 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Franklinton and continuing on Monday, April 1 from 9 a.m. until time for the funeral service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Eric Williams will officiate, with interment following in the Lang-Simmons Cemetery at Sheridan.
