Ellis Ezekiel Bateman, age 87 and a resident of Franklinton, died Tuesday March 5, 2019 at Riverside Medical Center. He was a former longtime insurance adjuster for General Motors and a member of Clifton Baptist Church. Ellis always enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his garden each season. He was very active with the Mile Branch Settlement including the Bateman Cabin. Ellis also worked in the syrup mill and other activities within Mile Branch. It was a true labor of love, and he looked forward to the Washington Parish Fair each year and how much it meant to those visiting Mile Branch.
Survived by: Wife of 67 years: Mary Nell Warren Bateman of Franklinton; Daughter and Son in law: Cheryl and Rick Brocato of Kentwood; Son and Daughter in law: Warren and Jackie Bateman of the Richardson Community; Grandchildren and Spouses: Jenny and Andrew Seawell, Alison and Casey Blades, David and Jessica Brocato, Derwin Bateman, Wendy Owen, Tia and Bobby Smith; Great-grandchildren: Serra Seawell, Sophia Seawell, Tanner Blades, Jonah Blades, Parker Blades, Lilyanna Brocato, Dallas Bateman, Bayne Robbins, Brendon Smith, Prudence Smith; Brother and Sister in law: Burlon and Hortensia Bateman of Franklinton; Also numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ezekiel Ellis Bateman and Lucy Hazel Smith Bateman, sister Faye Ellen Simpson, brother Dallas Lane Bateman and great-grandson Parish Owen.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Friday March 8th from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 am Friday with Rev. Tony Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in Ellis Cemetery.
