Bogalusa Police Make Arrest in Pharmacy Burglary

On September 6th at 4:16 AM, when the Bogalusa Police Department responded to an alarm activation at  Rocky’s Med Shoppe located on Cumberland Street, officers located a truck parked in the rear of the store with a tow strap tied to the rear door. The truck was used by the suspect to open the rear door and gain access to the building. Officers found no suspect(s) present but it appeared that the suspect took pills from the pharmacy.

Investigating officers reviewed video surveillance footage that revealed a white male suspect wearing blue paints and a blue jacket removing pill bottles from the shelves. The suspect resembled Frank Cangelosi, II (31) of Bogalusa. It was also determined that the truck used in the burglary was stolen from AB&E Potty Can Company, which is located next to Rocky’s Med Shoppe.

Investigating officers went to Cangelosiâ's residence, Cangelosi answered the door, and invited offcers inside. Cangelosi reportedly advised that the only other persons in the residence were his children, and gave officers verbal consent to check on the children and to look around the residence. In plain view, officers observed a bag on the floor of the kitchen with empty pill bottles along with blue pants and a blue jacket sitting on the back of a chair.  Officers checked the pill bottles and determined they came from Rocky’s Med Shoppe.

Officers placed Cangelosi under arrest and obtained a search warrant for the residence.

There were two children, a two year-old and a three year-old sleeping inside the residence. Officers determined that the children were left alone in the residence while Cangelosi was committing the burglary. The Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services was called and they took possession of the children.

During the execution of the search warrant, officers reportedly located a bag with several containers consisting of a large amount of pills in them. The pills consisted of Acetaminophen Butalbital and Caffeine, Alprazolam, Clonazepam, Diazepam, Gabapentin and Tramadol Hydrochloride for a total of 6,338 pills.

When the officers arrived at the Bogalusa City Jail with Cangelosi, he attempted to escape, and was captured after a brief chase on Austin Street.

Cangelosi was booked on the charges of Simple Burglary, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, 2 counts of Child Desertion, 2 counts of Illegal Use of a Controlled Substance in the Presence of a person Under 17 Years of Age, 5 counts of Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule IV Narcotics, Possession of Schedule IV Narcotics, 5 counts of Legend
Drug-Sale/Possession, Simple Escape and Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule III Narcotics.

This was good team work by Patrol Shift "C" and the Detective Division of the Bogalusa Police Department.
