Douglas William Snell
October 9, 1939 - August 20, 2018



Douglas William Snell, age 78 and a resident of Mount Hermon, died Monday night August 20, 2018 at his home. He was a United States Navy veteran after serving on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Forrestal from 1957 until 1960. Doug worked as a successful dairyman for many, many years while also selling Vermeer hay equipment to other farmers throughout the area. He had obtained a Business Agriculture degree from Southeastern Louisiana University. Doug had a pilot’s license and really enjoyed flying. He and his wife loved traveling to areas around the United States as well as overseas, with perhaps their trip to Peru as his favorite. Doug adored his grandchildren and loved to take them hunting and fishing and he always enjoyed attending their many sporting events.
Survived by: Wife of 57 years: Robbie Schilling Snell of Mt. Hermon; Daughter and Son-in-law: Beverly Snell Thomas and John E. Thomas of Baton Rouge; 3 Grandchildren: M. Turner Hunter, Jr. and his father and step-mother Mark T. and Cindy Hunter, Spencer J. Thomas, Kathryn P. Thomas; Brother: Wayne Snell of Mt. Hermon; Sisters: Camille Condalary of McComb, MS, Janice Williams of Brookhaven, MS; Brother-in-law and Sister-in-law: Beryl and Myrna Schilling of Mt. Hermon; Nephews and Nieces: Jeff Condalary, Julee Condalary Bultman, Ava Snell, Mark Snell, Richard Williams, Scott Williams, Darren Schilling, Derek Schilling, Debbie Wilkinson, Denise Brignac, Margaret Schilling Leggit, Brenda Schilling; Godson: David Hood Burris, II
He was preceded in death by his parents Harold Snell and Lillie Mae Desmond Snell, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jerry and W.E. Bates, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Wayne and Blanche Schilling, niece Sarah Schilling, nephew Michael Schilling.
Visitation will be at Crain Funeral Home Saturday August 25th from 9 am until 11 am. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 11 am Saturday with Rev. Ray Wuerzer, Rev. Joe Baugh and Rev. Leroy McElveen officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Mt. Hermon Cemetery.
