Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest in Shoplifting Case

Proactive policing and an alert deputy resulted in the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office clearing
two shoplifting cases last week.
A driver, stopped for speeding on I-12 on July 10, 2018, provided a fake name. However, the driver was ultimately identified as Shabrelle Deanne Gay (28) of Oklahoma City. Gay was jailed on the charges of Driving Under Suspension, Resisting Arrest, and Speeding. But things did not end there for Gay.
The deputy observed several items of children’s clothing, all new and with price tags, inside Gay’s vehicle. An investigation identified Gay as a suspect in a shoplifting case in which a female had entered a Covington-area business on July 9, 2018 and fled with several hundred dollars’ worth of children’s clothing. Gay was connected to the incident after reviewing surveillance video. She was also linked to a second shoplifting case that occurred at a nearby store on the same day.
Gay was re-booked on two counts of Theft of Goods $500-$1,500.
