Large Fight in Covington Leads to Multiple Arrests and Injuries


Covington Police Chief Tim Lentz announces that at approximately 7:35 PM last night (July 10, 201), the CPD responded to multiple reports of a large fight in front of the ISTOP Grocery in the 1300 block of N. Columbia Street. Responding officers were confronted with a large crowd involved in multiple altercations.
With assistance from the Louisiana State Police and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office, the crowd was dispersed and the scene brought under control at approximately 9:20 PM. As a result of the incident, three people were transported to area hospitals, two with minor injuries and one with multiple stab wounds. Six people were arrested, including one juvenile.
One firearm and shell casings were recovered at the scene.
Arrested and charged are the following: Chalmeale Gillin (30) of Abita Springs for Resisting an Officer and Aggravated Second Degree Battery, Cedric Laurant (43) of Covington for Simple Battery and Resisting an Officer, Britney Gillin (29) of Covington for Aggravated Assault, Latania Magee (39) of Covington for Aggravated Battery, Alvin Laurant (38) of Covington for Simple Battery and Resisting an Officer, and a 16 YOA Juvenile for Resisting an Officer and Simple Battery.
Additional charges are pending, and warrants are being sought for numerous others. The investigation into this incident is ongoing, and further details will be released as they become available.
