Leon Stanley Nelson
January 18, 1969 - May 18, 2018

Leon Stanley Nelson Sr. was born in Bogalusa, Louisiana to the late Leon Porter, Sr. and Gwendolyn Nelson.
He was a 1989 graduate of Bogalusa High School.  He Also attended Grambling State University.  Here he met and later married the former Princetta Barfield.  To this union a son was born.  Leon worked in the oil industry for over 25 years  and was ultimately promoted to District Manager.  He also received many accolades and awards during his tenure with his career.
Leon lived life to the fullest and was "the rock" for many.  He loved his family and friends but most of all, he loved God.  Through many upsets and disappointments, he continued to hold on to his faith.  While he attended church throughout his childhood, he accepted Christ and came to know Jesus for himself under the leadership of Bishop W.K. Gordon at St. John Elizabeth Temple C.O.G.I.C. Because of his strong convictions and commitments to the causes of Christ, he mentored and ministered to many with whom he came in contact throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leon Porter, Sr.; his mother, Gwendolyn Nelson Morgan, his Godmother, Louise Morris and his sister Marsha Cook.
He leaves his everlasting mark to his one and only child, who he treasured and loved immensely, Leon Stanley Nelson Jr. of Shreveport; his loving and faithful grandmother whom he cared for until his untimely death, Hilda Brown of Bogalusa; two sisters: Diane Porter of Bogalusa and Kimberly (Bobby) Showers, of Covington; five brothers: Gerald (Jowandlyn) Nelson of Baton Rouge, Donald Nelson of Hattiesburg, MS, Christopher (Yvonne) Nelson of Franklinton, Charles (Tammie) Nelson of Hattiesburg, MS, Travious Nelson of Bogalusa;a devoted stepfather, Charles Morgan of Bogalusa; two special nieces, Chuntay Nelson of Bogalusa, and Daisa Nelson of Hattiesburg, Ms; his Godmother, Barbara Jacobs of Bogalusa, Godfather, Paul Morris of Franklinton and Godsister, Bobbie Fontenot of Slidell; his lifetime friends: Gerrard Jackson, Tonia Martin, Deshonia Plummer, Deidra Robison, Bridget Scott and Bridgette Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
Visitation is scheduled for Saturday, May 26, 2018 from 11 am to 1 pm at Greater Ebenezer Baptist Church in Bogalusa. A Funeral Service will follow at 1 pm.
