Miss'y Ruth Morgan Jefferson
February 21, 1944 - April 18, 2018



Ruth Lee (Morgan) Jefferson was born on February 21, 1944, in Bogalusa, LA, to the late Thadis Lafayette Morgan, Sr. and Beatrice (Smothers) Morgan.
Ruth was the eldest of eleven children. She is preceded in death by her parents Thadis L. Morgan, Sr. and Beatrice Morgan, her husband Rev. Dr. Robert Earl Jefferson, Sr. and her brother Robert Morgan.
Ruth was a graduate of Jordan High School Class of 1963, in Los Angeles, CA. She attended East Los Angeles College, in Los Angeles, CA, but returned to Louisiana due to the illness of her mother. Ruth quickly took on the role of matriarch of the family after the passing of her mother.
Ruth accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church prior to relocating to Los Angeles, CA. She attended Whole Truth Church of God in Christ, in Los Angeles, CA, under the leadership of her uncle, Elder Dewey A. Morgan. In 1964, Ruth became a member of Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, in Roxbury, MA, under the leadership of Bishop Louis C. Young, where she remained until her return to Louisiana in 1987. She became a member of Greater Faith Temple Church of God in Christ in Mandeville, LA, under the leadership of her late husband, Rev. Dr. Robert E. Jefferson, Sr., where she was licensed as a Missionary in 1988.
Ruth was a loving, faithful and humble servant in the body of Christ. She served as a Missionary, Pastor’s wife, an Usher, President of the Pastor’s Aide, member of the Progressive District, Angelic Choirs and worked as a Women’s Sunday School Teacher. Ruth worked tirelessly to contribute to the spiritual and financial needs of the church.
On June 27, 1964, Ruth was united in Holy matrimony to the late Robert E. Jefferson, Sr. They remained committed to their marriage for 53 years and have two children from this union, Robert Jr. and Kelly Jefferson. Ruth was employed with Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, MA. and worked as a Cook for the Head Start Program in Roxbury, MA, until her return to LA. Ruth was known for her warm hospitality and was an awesome cook. She leaves behind a legacy of her love for God, family and friends.
Ruth Lee Jefferson departed this life on April 18, 2018, in Atlanta, Georgia. She leaves to cherish her memories her Son, Robert E. Jefferson, Jr. (Renee); Daughter, Kelly A. Jefferson of Georgia; Grandson, Jesiah R. Jefferson, Sr., Great grandson, Jesiah R. Jefferson Jr. of Massachusetts; Sisters Hazel Viamill of Kansas; Mary Morgan, Carolyn Brown, and Catherine Morgan of Georgia; Joycelyn Johnson (Larry) of Texas; Brothers Thadis Morgan, Jr; and James Morgan of Georgia; John Morgan (Andrea) of Massachusetts; Walter David Morgan of Louisiana; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation on Friday, April 27, 2018 from 2:00PM – 6:00PM at Crain and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Bogalusa.
Funeral service will be Saturday, April 28, 2018 11:00AM at First Church of God in Christ with Bishop Howard E. Quillen, Jr. – Pastor. Interment – Bogalusa Cemetery. Crain and Sons Funeral Home – Bogalusa are in charge of arrangements.
