Obituary

William "Billy" Hugh Magee
December 14, 1936 - April 26, 2018

William “Billy” Hugh Magee, age 81 and a resident of Bogalusa, went to his heavenly home on April 26,2018, at Our Lady of Angels Hospital after a lengthy battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28
Billy was born December 14, 1936, the son of Jewel and Nellie (Quinn) Magee. He married his wife of 58 years, Gwendolyn Sue Sheridan, on June 12, 1959.
Billy received the Good Conduct Medal after serving 5 years in the U.S. Air Force as an Airman First Class.  He retired as a pipefitter from Gaylord Paper Mill after 31 years.  Billy was first and foremost a man who loved his family dearly.  He strived to be a Christian example to them through the years.  He also taught them how to have fun. Although he was a quiet man, Billy was quick witted and loved to joke.  In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing, wood working, and collecting caps from his many travels.  His yearly Christmas light display was a source of pride.  Watching his LSU Tigers play football and baseball was another favorite pass time.  Billy was the type of guy who would rather fix it with duct tape than buy it new.  He never lost a game of checkers, although many tried to beat him.  He will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
He is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn Sue Magee, daughters: Sherry Seal of Bogalusa, Linda (Dennis) Mitchell of Baton Rouge, and Beverly (Billy) Smith of Springville, AL. Son Gene (Melissa) Magee of Denham Springs; grandchildren, Casey (Melissa) Varnado , Cody Mitchell, Ali Mitchell, Nicholas Magee, and Jenna Magee; and 1 great grandson Aiden Varnado. Brother Hugh (Carolyn) Magee and sister Mary Lynn (Randy) Travis, and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jewel and Nellie Magee, his sister Betty Jean Thompson, and his son-in-law David Seal.
Services will be held at Poole-Ritchie Funeral Home in Bogalusa, LA.  Visitation will be Sunday, April 29, 2018, from 11:00 A.M. and continue until time of funeral service at 4:00 P.M. Rev. Dennis Allen and Rev. Keith Sheridan will be officiating.  He will be laid to rest at the Hillview Memorial Gardens cemetery with full Military Honors presented by the Magic City American Legion Post #24.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to cure PSP at CurePSP.org.
