Councilwoman Fortenberry voted against the amendment, Council President Kates abstained, and the rest of the Council voted in favor of the amendment.
Video of the full council meeting will be available on our Government Meetings page tomorrow.
In other business, the Council
- authorized the Mayor to obtain counsel to pursue damages the city has suffered as a result of the opioid crisis,
- approved a resolution adopting LaMATS Procurement Services,
- tabled a resolution in support of the Washington Parish Council resolution regarding the parish landfill and
- amended the City's ordinance pertaining to burials to provide for stiff penalties, primarily affecting funeral homes. The primary problem is that burials in Bogalusa Cemetery are not deep enough, causing a health problem. It was noted in the discussions that, at least in one case, the casket was only about three inches deep, instead of required two feet.
