Obituary

James B Sibley
July 18, 1937 - January 29, 2018



Mr. James B. Sibley, a native of the Vernon community near Mt. Hermon and resident of Baton Rouge, passed away January 29, 2018 at the age of 82.
He was born to the union of Clermont (Jack) Sibley and Mrs. Inez Tate. He was the third of five children. He went to school at the Vernon High School in the Community of Mt. Hermon, LA where he graduated. He was a member of the Crystal Springs AME Church. He met and married the love of his life Mrs. Bertha J. Sibley. To that union of 60 years they had five children, 3 boys and 2 girls and raised his wife’s baby brother after the passing of his mother-in-law. He moved his family from the Vernon community area to Covington, LA so that he could better provide for his family.
He became an OTR driver and later he was able to purchase his own truck and named it, “Sibley Trucking”. He was a truck driver for about 50 years before retiring in 2007. He moved to Baton Rouge, LA where resided with his wife and two daughters until his death.
His family meant everything to him and he leaves to mourn and cherish precious memories, his loving and dedicated wife Mrs. Bertha Sibley, daughter, Melinda Sibley and Bernetta Sibley-Williams both of Baton Rouge, LA; his sons, Bernard James of Los Angeles, CA and Louis B. Sibley (Cheryl) of Atlanta, GA and Tyrone J. Sibley (Lenora) Duluth, GA.
He was a loving husband and father. He was a grandfather of 8, great grandfather of 4; great-great-grandfather of 4 and he leaves his two brothers, Clermont Sibley, Jr., Inglewood, CA and Claiborn Sibley of Mount Hermon, LA., and a host of nephews and nieces and a special friend (adopted son) Joe Pierre of Folsom, LA.
There will be a one day service with visitation to be held Monday, February 5, 2018 at Crystal Springs AME Church at 23308 Crystal Springs Road, Franklinton, LA 70438 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and the funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Bland Washington of Allen Chapel AME Church will be officiating.
Crain and Sons Funeral Home of Franklinton, LA are in charge of arrangements.
