Loss of Revenue Dominates Franklinton Aldermen Meeting

With sales tax revenues plummeting, the Franklinton Board of Aldermen expressed their concerns at their meeting Tuesday evening (January 9, 2018).
It was reported to the Board that the November - December, 2017 sales tax revenues came in $43,000 lower than the November - December, 2016 receipts. The trend has been noticed over time and it was suggested that the primary cause for the reduced sales tax revenues is the openings of Dollar General stores outside of the Town's corporate limits.
Comments included optimism that the opening of Tractor Supply will help and suggestions to extend the corporate limits.
