A Washington Parish grand jury indicted Dakeithan D. Matthews (22) of Bogalusa, Tuesday (November 28, 2017) on charges of second degree murder and armed robbery with a firearm. Matthews is accused of shooting to death Jon Kelly Smith, of Lumberton, Mississippi, and using the handgun to rob another victim on July 1, 2017.Pearl River County Sheriff's Office had contacted Bogalusa Police Department and advised that Smith, who had been shot three times while in Bogalusa to collect a debt, had travelled back to Mississippi and had died from his gunshot wounds.
Matthews was arrested by BPD on July 12, 2017.
