BPD Finds Man Asleep and in Possession of Meth

On Saturday. (September 30, 2017), the Bogalusa Police Department received a call about a driver being asleep in a vehicle on the shoulder of Louisiana Avenue. Officers Cody Wilson-Hunt and Quinton Spears responded.
The officers located the the driver, Dennis E. Bates (51) of Bogalusa, who was still asleep in his vehicle. Bates told the officers that he was having mechanical issues with his vehicle. Officers observed a travel bag sitting on the passenger seat of the vehicle and asked Bates if he had any illegal narcotics in the bag. Bates stated that he did not.  Bates unzipped the bag and the officers observed in plan view a cylindrical glass pipe with with white residue on it protruding from the bag. Officers searched the travel bag and located two small plastic bags that contained a clear crystal substance, suspected to be Methamphetamine, two glass smoking pipes, two straws and a digital scale. 
Bates was arrested on the charges of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (4 counts) and Possession with the Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.
