Bogalusa PD: Two Pursuits – Two Stolen Vehicles – Two Juvenile Arrests

Over this past weekend, the Bogalusa Police Department patrol shift "D" were involved in two separate vehicle pursuits that resulted in two stolen vehicles recovered and two juvenile arrests.

Pursuit 1: Saturday (October 21, 2017) at 2:30 am, officers attempted to stop a vehicle traveling 67 mph on Columbia Street. The driver fled down Columbia Street, City Limits Road, and Mitch Road where the 16 year-old juvenile driver lost control causing the vehicle to jump a ditch bank and strike a tree. Officers could smell the odor  of marijuana emitting from the vehicle and a search located a freshly-rolled blunt containing suspected marijuana, a handgun, and a camouflage face mask. The vehicle had been reported stolen to the Franklinton Police Department  from the Washington Parish Fairgrounds. The juvenile treated for minor injuries at Out Lady of Angles Hospital and later charged with Speeding, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Illegal Possession of Stolen Things, Illegal Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile, Possession of Marijuana, No Drivers License and Illegal Carrying of Weapons While in the Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance. He was released to his parents.

Pursuit 2: Monday (October 23, 2017 at 2:11 am, BPD responded to a report of suspicious vehicle without headlights making blocks in the Marshall Richardson Road and Redwood Avenue area. The vehicle was located but when officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled. The pursuit ended when the vehicle left the roadway on Sabine Street, drove through a gravel parking lot, and crashed into a chain link fence. The 14 year-old driver then fled on foot but was apprehended after a short foot chase. Officers searched the vehicle and located a cardboard box that contained "burglary tools" which included a screwdriver, pair of pliers and multiple pair of rubber gloves. Officers notified the registered owner of the vehicle and he was unaware that the vehicle had just been stolen. The juvenile was charged with Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Flight from an Officer, Criminal Damage to Property (fence), Possession of Burglary Tools, Theft of a Motor Vehicle and No Drivers License. He was transported to Florida Parishes Detention Center.
