TPSO Looking for Contractor Fraud Suspect

Matthew Gehegan (28) of Hammond is being sought by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Office for posing as licensed contractor and defrauding a Ponchatoula flood victim. The victims received FEMA assistance, payed Gehegan in advance of the work, and after months of delays he walked off the job.
Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Gehegan is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 800.554.5245.
Sheriff Edwards offers tips when dealing with contractors.
-- Check them out thoroughly. A Louisiana contractor's license can be verified at lslbc.louisiana.gov.
-- Get a written contract with a start and completion date and warranty information. Do not rely on a verbal commitment.
-- Never render full payment before a job has been completed.
-- Lastly, trust yourself.  When you meet the contractor, pay attention to your instinct. Are there any red flags about their personality? Are they pushy? Anxious? Smell of alcohol? If so, don’t use them.
